Facing Consequences of Our Actions

There was a devastating event in Genesis chapter 34. Dinah, the only daughter of Jacob and Leah was raped by Shechem.

Shechem loved Dinah but his actions were impulsive and evil. Not only did he sin against Dinah, he sinned against the whole family. The consequences of his deed were severe both for his family and all the males in their country and for Jacob's.

Simeon and Levi, the brothers of Dinah did not brush this thing off. They were outraged and seek revenge. They murdered Shechem, Hamor, Shechem's father and all the males in the city. They took their livestocks, wealth and their wives.

Simeon and Levi's desire for justice was right, but their ways of achieving it were wrong. Because of their sin, their father cursed them before he died.

The lessons for the devastating event is to leave revenge to God. "Vengeance is mine, says the Lord."

God sees everything and knows your desire for justice. Cast it all to Him rather than taking things on your own which leads to dreadful consequences of sin.

Blessings in the midst of Trials

In the year 2020, we have seen vast tragedies in the world. Earthquakes, typhoons, economic crisis, and above all the pandemic disease.

In line with the covid 19, this was unimaginable. Having lockdowns and quarantined for months contribute to elevating number of domestic abuse, decrease social encounter with acquaintances,  impoverish and famished state of people, high rates of death, and mental instability.

On the positive side, we saw that people are more prayerful than before, we saw lots of generous folks, government gives financial and food support to every family, creativeness abound more, and families who are apart geographically get to be more closer than before with the aid of video calls.

You see, despite of these challenges, we just be moving forward, focus on the solutions, and keep our faith and trust in God.

God does not ignore our needs. He is concerned in every aspect of our lives. To recognize His presence is the antidote for fear.
